Summer Camps | Summer Clinics | Evening Session

Summer Camps

The dates for summer camp are

June 16 – 20;
July 21 – 25; and
August 18 – 22.

The camps will be split into two groups:

Elite (current morning level players) will practice 9 – 12
Tournament (current VCU group in the evenings) will practice 2 – 4

The camps will be at Southampton Recreation (3201 Chellowe Rd), and we are working to allow the kids access to the swimming pool for the two hours before or after their camp session. There is also a snack bar for lunch, etc. The elite camp will be limited to 18 participants, and the tournament camp to 24. There are six courts for play, and we plan to have at least three pros for each camp, with assistants added as needed to keep the ratios appropriate. Our pros for the camps will be Damian, Jamie, Pat and Brandon. They will be teaching camps as schedules permit (Jamie all three, Damian at least two of the weeks, etc.)

As an added bonus, we will likely be hosting a traveling group from Wilmington during the 1^st session. Match play with this group will be in the afternoons for the elite players, and mornings for the tournament players. We are trying to do the same for the other two camps to give a full day experience.

Costs: To be set by the end of March

Summer Clinics

The summer session begins June 23 and ending August 15 (with the week off for July 21^st camp) for both the Elite and Tournament groups. The times are as follows:

11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. for the elite players at Courtside West led by Damian & Jamie
9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. for the tournament players at Collegiate

It will be possible to prorate the summer session either full time, or half time. We will have information on the fees once we confirm costs for courts.

If you are interested in the summer programs, please let Kim or me know as soon as your plans are set. The numbers are limited, and to keep the ratios correct with courts and pros we won’t be able to increase the size of the camps or clinics.

EVENING SESSION

The next session of evening tennis will begin the week of March 17, 2008 and run on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Southampton Recreational Center. (This is after daylight savings time kicks in, so it will be light later, and they do have lighting on the courts as well.) The center is located at 3201 Chellowe Road, Richmond 23225, which is just off Cherokee Road, just across the river. Basically, much closer than VCU!

The courts are outside, so we will have to coordinate for weather, but we will extend the session to six weeks to allow for some weather cancellations without increasing the cost from the five week session. In fact, once we have a chance to look at overall costs, we may be able to reduce the price, but right now we are working on assistants for the three pros. At this point we are estimating $175/ six weeks.
